Sound Experiment: A Prayer for Superposition (2024)
_ A Bodily Ensemble Transcending Space and Time
“Sound Experiment: A Prayer for Superposition” is an experiment on how to superimpose space and time through sound and how to sense it. Objects with different spatialities and temporalities each generate their own waves. I think about the cicada’s wavelength, which expands and contracts according to relative time. With the assistance of the MAX/MSP program and mathematics, I connect the space-time of the vibrating membrane of the Taepyeongso, a traditional Korean musical instrument, with the space-time of the cicada. Like fingers touching through a sheet of paper, they push and pull, maintaining a state of superposition. Then, by using ‘my body’ as an instrument to play this state, I attempt to ‘sense the tension that arises at the point of connection between different spaces and times.’ The experiment continues as sounds inspired by various material waves—such as yoga poses, everyday movements, neuron excitations, and machine engines—participate in the superposition.
The performance was held in February 2024 at the ‘comma_mallang’ space in Mullae-dong, Seoul, South Korea, along with experiments by fellow artists who studied sound interaction and Sound Body Interface together in the fall of 2023. Fellow artists, each bringing their own sound experiments, participated as performers in each other’s experiments.

사운드 실험중첩을 위한 기도는 소리를 통해 시공간을 중첩시키고 이를 감각하는 방법에 대한 실험입니다서로 다른 공간성과 시간성을 가진 대상들은 각자의 파동을 생성합니다저는 상대적 시간에 따라 팽창하고 수축하는 매미의 파장에 대해 생각합니다 프로그램과 수학의 도움을 받아. 한국 전통 악기인 태평소의 진동막이 가진 시공간과 매미의 시공간을 연결합니다. 종이 한 장을 사이에 두고 손가락이 맞닿듯이들은 서로 밀고 당기며 중첩의 상태를 유지합니다. 그런 다음나의 몸을 이 상태를 연주하는 악기로 사용하여 다른 시공간의 연결 지점에서 발생하는 긴장감을 감각하려 시도합니다. 실험은 요가 자세, 일상적인 움직임뉴런의 흥분기계 엔진 등 다양한 물질의 파동에서 영감을 얻은 소리들이 중첩에 참여하면서 계속됩니다.
